Mining engineering is a division of engineering which studies the techniques for extracting minerals from the natural environment.  Mining involves use of professional techniques such as blasting, production, processing, drilling, marketing, extraction and development.  The main function of mining engineers is to put the knowledge of scientific theories, engineering fundamentals and developed technologies to discover and recover natural resources in a profitable manner. It becomes pertinent to note here that the importance of ecological and environmental planning is given significant attention in all aspects of the mining engineering curriculum. There are some specialized branches like Mining Electronics, Mining Machinery and Mineral Mngineering thatmining engineers can opt for.

 

Companies like the ONGC, Coal India, Geological Survey of India, HCL and MNCs like British Gas and Schlumberger recruit graduates directly from the top campuses. Mining engineers can also choose to work with geologists in order to explore and assess new ore deposits or conduct research.
